Nurses play a crucial role in the care and recovery of pediatric patients, not only by providing medical interventions but also by ensuring emotional support for children and their families. In pediatric wards, parents' satisfaction with care can significantly influence their perception of the healthcare system and impact their overall experience with treatment. The attitudes of nurses, including their level of empathy, communication skills, and professionalism, are key factors that influence parental satisfaction (Adeoye et al., 2024).
In Bauchi State, where healthcare facilities face challenges such as inadequate resources, understaffing, and high patient loads, the attitudes of nurses toward patients and their families are even more critical. A positive nursing attitude can alleviate parental concerns, reduce anxiety, and promote better cooperation in treatment plans. Conversely, negative attitudes can result in dissatisfaction, distrust, and non-compliance with medical recommendations.
This study seeks to assess the effect of nurses’ attitudes on parent satisfaction in pediatric wards in Bauchi State, exploring how various aspects of nursing care can impact the overall parental experience and child outcomes.
Despite the importance of nurse-parent relationships in pediatric care, there has been limited research in Bauchi State on the role of nurses' attitudes in influencing parental satisfaction. Negative or indifferent attitudes from nurses can undermine the trust that parents have in the healthcare system, potentially leading to poor cooperation, delayed treatment, and adverse outcomes for children.
This study aims to examine how nurses’ attitudes towards patients and parents affect parental satisfaction in pediatric wards, with the goal of improving nursing practices and patient care in Bauchi State.
This study will focus on pediatric wards in healthcare facilities within Bauchi State. Data will be collected through surveys and interviews with parents and nursing staff. Limitations may include biases in self-reported satisfaction, challenges in reaching a representative sample, and possible variations in the attitudes of nurses based on their work environment.
